Length matching counts copper pad to pad and ignores package pin delay, which KiCad, Allegro and Altium all read, so a DDR byte lane matched on the board alone is off by the package's own per-ball trace lengths. Two checks also count the via barrel differently, so a pair inside a length group gets measured as two different lengths.
