kicad-mcp-pro

kicad-mcp-pro is a Model Context Protocol server for KiCad workflows. It exposes tools, resources, and prompts for schematic, PCB, validation, DFM, and manufacturing export automation, so an MCP-capable AI agent can drive those workflows. It supports stdio and Streamable HTTP transports, and it ships a desktop app, a CLI, a web dashboard, and a KiCad PCB Editor companion that is described as a development preview.

Access is profile-gated. The server starts with a bounded default profile of 24 read-only review tools. A build profile with write mode allows controlled edits, and a release profile with manufacturing mode covers human-gated handoff; the expert and full profiles are for advanced trusted clients only. The README is explicit that this is a first-pass design and review assistant, not an automated sign-off authority: ERC and DRC and the export pipeline drive KiCad's own engines, while the signal integrity, power integrity, EMC, and thermal tools are first-order closed-form estimates, not a substitute for a field solver or formal sign-off.

The server also covers BOM analysis and live component sourcing, with the JLCPCB public catalog as the default source and Nexar, DigiKey, and Mouser available only when their API credentials are configured. Telemetry and error reporting are disabled by default. The README reports a capability parity figure of 76.6 percent for the fraction of KiCad's programmatically reachable surface the server can drive, with genuine gaps kept distinct from GUI-only items that KiCad exposes no headless API for.
