KiCAD MCP Server (mixelpixx)

KiCAD MCP Server is a Model Context Protocol server built on the MCP 2025-06-18 specification. It lets AI assistants such as Claude interact with KiCad for PCB design automation, with tool schemas and real-time project state access. An engineer describes what to build in natural language, and the assistant handles placement, custom symbols and footprints, routing, checks, and production file export.

The stated capabilities cover project setup, schematic editing, component placement, routing, DRC and ERC, and export, plus custom symbol and footprint generation for modules not in the standard KiCad library, personal library management for reuse across projects, JLCPCB integration with parts catalog pricing and stock data, Freerouting integration for automatic routing via Java or Docker, and visual feedback through snapshots and session logs. It runs on Windows, Linux, and macOS, and needs KiCad 9.0 or later, Node.js 18 or later, and Python 3.11 or later.

Important successor note, stated on the README itself: new development happens in Konnect, a rebuild from scratch in Rust as a native KiCad 10 plugin, built on KiCad's official IPC API, with 171 tools, bundled skills and agents, design review audits, and a manufacturing pipeline. Konnect is licensed AGPL-3.0, with commercial licenses available for businesses. This Python and TypeScript server remains fully open under MIT and maintained.
