What it does and how it connects

Quilter automates PCB placement and routing together. You prepare the design in your own ECAD tool, upload it, and Quilter returns layout candidates in your native ECAD format. You review the output, adjust, and resubmit; the homepage says most boards go through 2 to 5 cycles before the engineer is satisfied, and Quilter shows every physics check it ran.

It supports Cadence, Altium Designer, KiCad, OrCAD, and Siemens Xpedition formats. The capabilities table on the homepage lists boards of 100 to 1,000 components as live, through-hole vias as live, automated BGA fanout as beta, and blind and buried vias, length matching, and RF handling as in development, with pre-routed RF nets supported.

Deployment options include managed cloud, private cloud in your own AWS account, and a self-hosted option inside your own infrastructure. The homepage states Quilter does not train on your data and offers SOC 2 Type II compliant handling with data encrypted in transit and at rest.

Pricing

Pay per project, priced by the number of unrouted pins at upload; no annual licenses and no per-seat pricing, and iterations within a project are included. A free version exists. No dollar price is published on the pricing page.

Real user voices

Hardware engineer Robert Feranec, writing in Elektor, said he has not used the new generation of layout tools himself, is reluctant to upload schematics to a vendor database because of data value and uncertain handling, and expects the process to stay iterative: generate, check, and refine.
