What it does and how it connects

Universal Netlist MCP Server gives AI agents the tools to understand and analyze electrical schematics, for design reviews through natural conversation. It reads Cadence, Altium, and KiCad design files directly on macOS, Linux, and Windows, with no Cadence or Altium installation and no EDA license required.

Supported formats are Cadence OrCAD/CIS .DSN schematics (including per-part Do Not Stuff state and selectable CIS BOM variants), Altium .SchDoc documents discovered via .PrjPcb projects (sheets joined through ports, sheet entries, and buses, with selectable design variants), and KiCad 6 to 10 schematics or committed .net exports, plus its own open .netlist.json format.

Installation is a standalone binary (signed and notarized on macOS, with auto-updates) or an npm package, followed by a plugin for the agent such as Claude Code, so no configuration has to be written by hand. The server is read-focused: it exposes designs for query and review, and no write capability (editing schematics or netlists) is claimed in the README sections read.
